Hospital lift has a free fall, four staffers injured

Noida: Four staffers of Yatharth Hospital in Sector 110 were injured after the service lift in which they were going from the ground floor to the lower basement had a free fall for about 8ft and landed with a thud. Police said the lift, which moves only two floors from the ground to the lower basement (minus two), malfunctioned. A team from Phase 2 police station, which rushed to the hospital after getting information, ruled out serious injuries to any of the four staffers.This is a service lift, not for patients or visitors.The four staffers were carrying equipment needed for dialysis when the lift had a free fall for about 8ft. They alerted the hospital authorities immediately. A team rescued them after a few minutes, said Hirdesh Katheriya, additional DCP, central Noida. The four are undergoing treatment at the hospital.Officials at Yatharth said, It was a minor incident. The man sexually abused a seven-year-old girl, leading residents to apprehend him and hand him over to the police. The girls parents filed a complaint after she showed reluctance to use the lift. Further investigations discovered that the same man had also misbehaved with an eight-year-old girl. The lift operator has been charged with two separate cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
