NOIDA: The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has urged the excise department to allow bars to serve booze till 3am. Currently, restaurants, pubs and bars are allowed to operate from 10am till midnight. On Friday, a delegation of NRAI met excise officer, Subodh Kumar, and submitted a letter addressed to the excise commissioner. Varun Khera, NRAIs UP chapter head, said Noida has a vibrant lifestyle where people work in 24-hour shifts. There are office goers who work during the day, some work in the evening and others at night. A person who returns home at night and wants to have a party faces difficulties due to the current norms as the bars shut down by 12am.Khera said the extension of timings could come with a nominal increase in the excise fee. Such a move will be beneficial on all fronts. It will create more jobs, drive consumption, improve tourism and government revenue, he said. They said, the government has already formulated the framework for up to 24x7 operations through Model Shops and Establishments (regulation of employment and conditions of service) Bill in 2016. Kumar told TOI that the state government releases a new excise policy every year in January. We have forwarded the letter to the excise commissioner and will share the details once we receive information from our headquarters, he said.We also published the following articles recentlyExcise licence of Calangute pub put under scanner following assault on two touristsPolice are investigating the excise license of a pub in Calangute, Goa, where two tourists were allegedly assaulted by touts.
