NOIDA: Residents of Ace City in Sector 1, Greater Noida West took to sprinkling water in the societys internal park and the towers to prevent dust pollution in the area. Residents report a rise in dust pollution in the area because of a vacant GNIDA plot opposite the society as well as construction activities at the neighbouring Aimnabad village.According to the AOA, they plan on continuing the practice until Diwali and even after the holiday, if the need arises. Before sprinkling water, the AOA issues a prior intimation via an internal notice on the MyGate app to all residents to remove their clothes and other perishable stuff from their balconies for a brief duration.Given the severe air quality of Greater Noida, we have undertaken water sprinkling in our society from Saturday to reduce dust pollution, said Atmaram Rathore AOA treasurer of Ace City Sector 1 Greater Noida West. The residents are using STP water for the sprinkling process.Himanshu Gaur, AOA president of Ace City, added that they plan to start sprinkling water on the towers of the society from Monday. We started water sprinkling on the ground level in the park inside the society. Now we will begin with the towers from Monday as these too are laden with dust due to the construction activity in our vicinity, said Gaur.Ace City has around 2532 flats with about 8000 residents currently residing there. Many of them complain of dust allergies and pollution-related ailments. We have received complaints of runny noses, itching in eyes, cough and throat irritation. Children are the most vulnerable, often having bouts of sneezing and cough, said Harish Kumar AOA secretary of the society. Residents across Noida and Greater Noida are reporting similar issues. Akash Singh, a resident of Gaur Grandeur Society in Sector 119 also complained of all round smog and haze in and around the society. Its difficult to breathe despite keeping our windows and doors shut. I urge officials to pay attention to this area and arrange for water sprinkling and anti-smog activities in our society, said Singh. The District Development Residents Welfare Association (DDRWA), meanwhile, wrote to chief minister Yogi Adityanath demanding stricter action on non-compliance with GRAP norms. The environment has become extremely dangerous for children, the elderly and especially asthma patients. Even by staying at home, we are not able to escape from this poison. It is the responsibility of the government to prevent this. If the administration makes proper arrangements and works at the ground level, then it can be avoided to a great extent, said NP Singh, president of the DDRWA.
