Discom promises uninterrupted power during festivals

NOIDA: The Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) aims to provide uninterrupted, 24x7 power supply to all its consumers in Greater Noida till the day after Diwali. Apart from deploying 26 special teams across the city to address outage-related issues, the discom has issued a helpline number — 0120-6226666 for complaints.The discom has also released a WhatsApp number 9718722222 and an advisory on dos and donts regarding electrical equipment and decorations for a safe Diwali.From Dhanteras to Govardhan Puja (on day after Diwali), 26 special teams will be on duty from 5pm to 1am in urban areas of Greater Noida, five teams in Greater Noida West, and five teams in Surajpur and Kasna division each, said Sarnath Ganguly, vice president (operations), NPCL.Last time, we witnessed an incident of cable damage in a couple of places due to firecrackers. Thus, we have issued an advisory for our consumers to celebrate a safe Diwali. It includes not overloading electrical appliances to avoid the risk of fire, avoiding firecrackers near electrical equipment like transformers, poles, cables, etc and ensuring proper distance while installing decorative lights etc, Ganguly said. Residents are urged to follow government guidelines, use green crackers with permitted chemicals, and avoid bursting crackers near inflammable materials, on roads, or near cattle. Children should be supervised while bursting crackers and people should refrain from smoking near firecracker shops. The police have assigned 18,000 personnel to ensure a safe Diwali and will take action against those who violate the rules. Last year, several cases were booked for violations.Car parking tips during Diwali celebrations: Ensure safety from firecrackersDuring the festive season, it is important to protect your vehicle from firecracker damage. Park in a covered area or under a tree for protection. Avoid parking near areas where firecrackers are likely to be set off. Do not use a car cover as they can catch fire easily. Consider leaving your car parked in a known garage or paid multi-story parkings. Take pictures of your parked car to document any damage for insurance claims.Pollution: Physical classes up to Class 9 suspended in schools across Noida, Greater NoidaThe district administration in Noida and Greater Noida has ordered the suspension of in-person classes for students up to class 9 until November 10 due to the deteriorating air quality. This decision is in line with the Graded Responses Action Plan Stage-IV implemented by the Commission for Air Quality Management. All schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar district are instructed to follow these directives and switch to online learning during this period.
