NOIDA: Even as Diwali is around the corner, residents across Noida and Greater Noida reel with basic issues of water and sanitation. About 400 residents of block A in Sector 43 complained of no water supply on Thursday. While the problem has persisted for the past three days in the sector, residents in Sector 3 Greater Noida West complained of dirty, foul-smelling, yellowish water supply on Thursday which was unusable. In other Sectors 71, 120, 119 etc low pressure to shortage of water supply has persisted for nearly a week.Theres been no water in our block for the past two days. Today too we havent got any water supply. As a result, daily chores are affected. We have no information on the lack of water supply either, said Sushma Taneja a resident of A block of Sector 43, Noida.Narendranath Gudavalli fore RWA general secretary of Sector 43 further told TOI that while the water problem has persisted for three days, nearly 400 residents are affected in the sector. Along with the water problem, construction of houses is also underway in full swing in the sector in gross violation of pollution norms, said Gudavalli who adds that so far, the residents have been dependent of stored water in their tanks, but not for long if the problem persists.Similar problems were reported from Sectors 71, 120 and 119 etc. There has been a very low-pressure water supply for the past three to four days this week. Despite many complaints, there was no redress from the Noida Authority. We had to resort to calling tankers to fulfil residents requirements. This is despite having three water connections out of which one is not in operation despite paying advance payment for all three connections by us, said a resident of a highrise in Sector 119.Meanwhile in Greater Noida, residents were troubled by the dirty water supply in their homes. Dirty water was supplied on Wednesday. The water is yellow-coloured and has a strange smell which is very foul, said Naveen Kumar a resident of Sector 3 Greater Noida West.Siddharth Agarwal, another resident of the sector added that the water cannot be used for cooking or other purposes as it is muddy. Soil and sand water is being supplied to homes for many days. People are afraid of diseases due to dirty water. The entire festive spirit is dampened due to problems related to water, said Agarwal.Officials from both Noida and Greater Noida Authorities assured to look into the water problems with a solution soon.
