Noida teen wins silver at national golf event

NOIDA: Fifteen-year-old golf player Zara Anand from Noida has won the silver medal at the 37th National Games Golf Championships at the Delhi Golf Club this year. From the last position (33rd rank) in the 2022 championship, Zaras journey, said her coach, has not been smooth.Zara was infected with Covid in 2021 and then diagnosed with severe hyperthyroidism.She was constantly losing weight and energy despite taking rest. She lost all hope when she stood last in the 2022 championship. It was my toughest time with her in the last 10 years. But I kept boosting her enthusiasm and faith, said coach Amit Dubey.I couldnt play for four months after last years nationals. I went under medication, but I again started practising in March this year. My biggest inspiration is my grandfather, a golf player, too, said Anand.At the nationals this year, Anand scored 74, 73, 73 and 73 in four rounds of intense competition.She started going to the golf course when she was only four. Her grandfather inspired her. Our family has always loved and supported sports, said her father, Vivek Anand.In Class 10 now, Zara said she takes online classes at an American school. Till Class 8, I went to a CBSE school in Noida. However, the regular classes would hamper my practice timings. Hence, I took admission to an American school, where I take online classes, she said.After school, Zara would get admitted to an American college to continue practising with golf professionals there, said her coach.For a game like golf, America has the best competitive environment and money, like India has for cricket. She has the talent. Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced the extension on social media, stating that primary schools will remain closed until November 10. The decision comes as Delhi faces severe air pollution, with scientists predicting the levels to remain high until the end of the week. The Graded Response Action Plan has been implemented, and state governments will decide on office capacities and work-from-home arrangements.
