Attendance in govt schools set to go online

NOIDA: The attendance of teachers and students in government schools in the district will go online from next month. The state education department has asked the schools to mark the attendance of using tablets that will be provided to schools. Around 800 tabs will be distributed in 511 government schools in Noida, said officials. Each composite and council school will get two tablets, one for the principal and another for the teacher in charge, while junior primary schools will receive one tablet each, said Aishwarya Lakshmi, the basic siksha adhikari (BSA) of Gautam Buddh Nagar.However, Lakshmi added that the district education department is yet to receive the tablets.As per the guidelines, the principal of the schools will be marking the attendance of each teacher before the school commences each day. Till now, the attendance was being recorded in a register, which will now shift to an online portal. Officials alleged that during surprise invigilation in schools, teachers were found missing during class hours, while their attendance were marked on the school register. To avoid such situations, the attendance will be marked online from now on, said the official.Meanwhile, the teachers in government schools did not welcome the move. The average attendance rate in Noida schools was around 60% until September, with frequent school closures due to floods and pollution being a major factor. The district is divided into four blocks, with Jewar having the lowest attendance rate at 54%, followed by Bisrakh at 56%. The low attendance rate is particularly concerning in these areas due to the migrant population. The female teacher and her husband have filed a complaint stating that they were beaten up, while other injured teachers claim they were attacked by the husband.School teacher arrested for flashing at girl inside bus in KeralaA 44-year-old school teacher in Kozhikode was arrested for allegedly exposing himself to a minor girl during a bus journey. The accused, identified as Shanavas, was apprehended following a complaint lodged by the girl. He is now facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and is scheduled to appear in court today.
