NOIDA: The Authority will soon take the help of mechanical sweeping vehicles to clean the main roads in the city, while manual sweeping will continue on the service roads. This decision comes at a time when garbage collection has been hit in the city as sanitation workers in Greater Noida are on strike.Aimed to begin mechanical sweeping with 400 kilometers of the citys main road, an Authority official explained, The estimated length of main roads with a width equal to or more than 24 meters and 45 meters is approximately 200 kilometers and 206 kilometers, respectively.For project implementation ease, the GNIDA has divided the roads into four groups.The Authority has initiated the selection process for the service provider. Interested companies have time till November 22 to submit their proposals, which include an explanation of the fixed infrastructure required, the manpower they plan to deploy, the type of sweeping vehicles they plan to use for washing roads and footpaths, and transportation of dust and garbage. Presentations of proposals will take place the following day.The selected company will be required to deploy adequate vehicles and manpower for the projects smooth execution. Also, its a must for all mechanised sweeping vehicles to install GPS with a four-way CCTV camera (front, rear, left, and right) integrated with multiple monitoring systems, including web, Android, and iOS systems. Transporting the collected waste and dust in closed vehicles to the sanitary landfill facility located in Astauli or any other designated spot will also be the companys responsibility.Simultaneously, service roads parallel to arterial roads, marketplaces, and parking spaces will be cleaned manually. A concessionaire will also be hired for this project, who will be responsible for cleaning the weekly markets held in different sectors of the city, apart from establishing a complaint redressal mechanism and ensuring the timely resolution of complaints.The GNIDA is yet to determine the payment method --- monthly fixed rate or rate per kilometer of sweeping. Greater Noida spread over 380 sq km is being developed into an integrated industrial town. Multiple initiatives have been taken to improve the sanitation and waste management here.
