NOIDA: Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is planning an interchange at Blue Lines Sector 61 metro station on the proposed Greater Noida West corridor and will make a fresh DPR for the line, accordingly. In the previous DPR, NMRC had proposed an interchange — a skywalk — between Aqua Lines Sector 51 metro station and Blue Lines Sector 52 station. Those stations, however, are separated by a 300m distance. So, the central government rejected the proposal and suggested the Sector 61 interchange. The NMRC officials said in the fresh DPR, the alignment and stations will likely be as proposed earlier. The skywalk at Sector 51 station is under construction and will be ready by March 2024.NMRC had proposed building the corridor in two phases in the first DPR. The first phase will be 9.6km long and have five stations in sectors 122 and 123, Sector 4 in Greater Noida West, Ecotech 12, and Sector 2 in Greater Noida West. The second phase will be 5.8km long and have four stations in Greater Noida Sector 3, 10 and 12 and Knowledge Park 5.Pankaj Agarwal, general manager (projects) NMRC, said, The interchange next to the Sector 61 station will facilitate commuters. There will not be major changes in the alignment, and all the stations mentioned in the earlier DPR will remain the same. The metro will connect Sector 61 to Sector 51 station, he said.Agarwal said the interchange will be similar to that between the Blue Line and Magenta Line at Botanical Garden, which has been successful. We will make a fresh DPR and send it to the state and central governments for final approval, he added.Abhishek Kumar, president of the Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), said there is no issue with an interchange at Sector 61, but officials must expedite the work. NMRC has been planning the Greater Noida West corridor for the past few years but has yet to take concrete steps. DMRC has a better track record of completing the project on time and maintaining it well. The 5 lakh people living in highrises in Greater Noida West need a robust public transport system, he said.Currently, the daily ridership of Aqua Line, which connects Sector 51 to Depot Station in Greater Noida, is 55,000.We also published the following articles recentlySecurity guard killed after being hit by SUV in Greater NoidaA security guard in UPs Greater Noida, Mukesh Lodhi, lost his life after being struck by an SUV near Aichhar T-Point on November 18.
