Liquor from Haryana served at farmhouse, owner booked, 4 held

NOIDA: The excise department raided a party at a farmhouse in Sector 135 on Wednesday night and arrested four staff members of an event management firm for illegally serving liquor without an temporary bar licence. Liquor worth Rs 70,000 was seized from Kantam farmhouse located in the Yamuna floodplain area, which was supposed to be sold in Haryana only. The farmhouse owner and liquor shop owner were also booked. Officials said that for a days party, an occasional bar licence needs to be issued for Rs 11,000, and the liquor needs to be sold in UP. The four people who were held include event manager Rahul Kasana (29), a resident of New Defence Colony in Ghaziabad, and his three staff members --- Suraj Singh (35) from Ghaziabad, Bakul Agarwal (25) and Rahul Kumar (25) from Delhi. The farmhouse owner Pooja Jain, and Monu Bhati, the alcohol shop owner were booked too.Excise inspector Shikha Thakur filed an FIR after the raid was conducted. When the team reached the farmhouse, they found liquor that was for sale in Haryana only and the organisers failed to produce an occasional bar licence too. They confessed to purchasing the illegal liquor from a shop owned by Monu Bhati, said the FIR. The district excise officer Subodh Kumar said that the excise department seized 72 bottles of liquor from the party, which included 10 bottles of Bacardi Rum, 11 bottles of Jim Beam scotch, 10 bottles of Teachers Highland Cream, 11 bottles of Old Monk, 11 bottles of Lone Wolf beer and 7 bottles of Bacardi beer, all made for sale in Haryana. There were nearly 30 people at the party when the farmhouse was raided, added Kumar.A representative of the farmhouse, which is owned by Pooja Jain, told TOI, We had rented out the property for a party on Wednesday night.
