Noida official leaks police letter on gangster, sacked

Noida: The Noida Authority CEO terminated the service of a junior official for leaking a confidential police letter to a few people. The letter found its way into social media on November 20. Prayagraj police had sent the letter to the Authority, seeking details of properties belonging to slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his family members in the city.An investigation by a two-member committee formed by Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M and comprising of an officer on special duty (OSD) and the deputy general manager (civil) revealed that Mukul Tiwari, a contractual worker posted in the DGM (civil) office, leaked the letter. After that, the Authority terminated Tiwaris service with immediate effect. "The dissemination of such government letters on social media and in newspapers, breaching office confidentiality, is highly objectionable," said an Authority statement.In the police letter, the investigating officer (IO) from the Prayagraj police commissioner informed the Noida CEO about the ongoing proceedings against Ahmed under the Gangsters Act. The IO also requested the CEO to ascertain details of properties belonging to Ahmed, his wife Shaista, their five sons, and Ahmeds deceased brother Ashraf and Ashrafs wife Zainab in Noida.The letter stated, "If there are any properties of the accused Atiq Ahmed and his relatives/family members in your jurisdiction, please inform us so the prosecution can start under Section 14(1) of the Gangster Act."The Noida additional CEO, Sanjay Khatri, then sent out the police letter, instructing all departments to provide details of related properties within seven days, and that surfaced on social media on November 20.
