One dies, 5 injured as car ploughs into workers in Sec 83

Noida: A 22-year-old worker died while five others received injuries after a car ploughed into them in Sector 83 on Sunday early morning. The victims had headed home after completing shift hours at factories in the area. The car driver fled from the spot. CCTV cameras installed outside an office captured the accident. The 1.23-minute footage shows nearly 12-15 workers walking on one side of the road when a white SUV coming at a high speed from the opposite side rams into them.When the workers realised what had hit them, the car driver accelerated and fled.Police identified the deceased as Islam, a resident of Laharpur in Sitapur district and living in a rented accommodation in Phase 2. The injured persons are Immam-ud-din (23), Islam-ud-din (25), Tausiq (21), Saheeq (23) and Talib (20). Saheeq and Talib have been released from the hospital, while the other injured persons are still undergoing treatment. Hirdesh Katheriya, additional DCP (Central Noida), told TOI that the incident happened at 1 am on Sunday. Police received information about it on emergency number 112. A team rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Islam brought dead. The hospital referred three of his colleagues to another hospital in Delhi, which discharged two of them after preliminary treatment, he said.A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others), and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC was registered against the unidentified car driver at the Phase 2 police station on Sunday. Efforts are underway to identify the accused. Police are checking the CCTV footage to trace his face or car number, he said. "The injured told police that it was a white car.
