District hospital to have a de-addiction centre

NOIDA: The district hospital in Sector 39 is set to launch dedicated OPD services for addiction patients. The hospital, which also plans to start a 10-bed ward for addiction patients, has received approval from the state government, and services are expected soon. The clinic will focus on regular counsellingfor people who are exposed to various types of addiction.Once operational, the hospital will also start a ward for inpatient services for addiction patients. Last month, chief medical superintendent Dr. Renu Agarwal sent a proposal to the state government for the same.After the budget allocation, the OPD is expected to start from December. The hospital has appointed a counsellor and psychologist for the patients. The rising cases of addiction among youth are a health concern that later transforms into cancer, liver, and kidney-related ailments. To curb the problem at the initial level, counselling, medication, and therapy services will be available at the OPD, said an official. In the second phase, a 10-bed ward will also be established, which will need trained staff and infrastructure. As per the National Family Health Survey report 2019-21, 44% of men in Uttar Pradesh are consuming tobacco in some form or another, while the percentage of women exposed to tobacco is 3.4%.
