Noida: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), Delhi, to make tiles out of waste, including plastic, and then use the same to build footpaths in the city. The initiative aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, promote a more sustainable waste management system, and provide tiles at affordable rates, according to a statement released by the GNIDA on Friday. The statement came after a GNIDA delegation visited the CRRI campus in Delhi to study the technology and process behind tile production from waste. The GNIDA, said officials, would provide polythene and other construction waste material to CRRI, which, in turn, will get paver block tiles made at affordable rates. Such tiles are not only cheaper but will likely last a long time and also require less expenditure on maintenance, said officials, adding that the tiles will go into footpath construction.Last week, a CRRI team visited the GNIDA office with a presentation on paver block tiles made from waste. They are in use in some foreign countries now.A team led by additional CEOs Medha Rupam and Annapurna Garg visited the CRRI campus on Friday to discuss the MoU.After that, GNIDA CEO NG Ravi Kumar directed work circle officials to identify footpaths in their respective areas to lay the finished tiles there. The city produces 300-350 tonnes of garbage daily, with only a part of it processed while the rest piles up and adds to the legacy waste. We also published the following articles recentlyConstruction waste dumps a call to disasterResidents of villages near Silkyara are concerned about the dumping of construction waste from the all-weather Char Dham road widening project.
