88 villages to get streetlights, CCTV cameras this month

Noida: A total of 88 villages in the district are set to get streetlights and CCTV cameras this month. Work on the project is complete in 79 villages across Dadri and Jewar, officials said.The aim of the initiative — under Operation Trinetra — is to keep a check and take action against crimeslike theft, robbery and cases against womens safety. Streetlights have been installed in Jarcha, Ithaira, Saithali, Pyawali Tajpur, Falaida Bangar, and other villages.Kunwar Singh Yadav, district panchayat raj officer told TOI that various works are underway under Operation Trinetra to make the villages at par with urban sectors. Under the operation, the government installs CCTV cameras in public places to monitor movements and prevent crime.We aim to make living conditions safe and conducive for the rural population. On the lines of urban areas, various development works are underway in villages under gram panchayats. Apart from installing free internet connection in the gram sachivalya, work of installing streetlights and cameras is also going on. This will provide convenience to the people in commuting during the dark hours, Yadav said.According to Yadav, streetlights are to be installed in 88 villages under the gram panchayats in the district. So far, 6,071 lights have been installed in 79 villages, including Jarcha, Ithaira, Saithali, Pyawali Tajpur, and Falaida Bangar, among others, Yadav told TOI.He further added that for the remaining villages, electrical material and equipment have already been procured and the work is expected to be completed before New Year. About CCTV cameras and public address systems in the villages, Yadav said that cameras will be installed at major street corners, intersections, markets, religious places and government buildings. These cameras will be connected to the police command control room. This will help in curbing criminal incidents and making it easier for the police to identify culprits and make arrests. CCTV coverage and lighted streets will also provide safety and security to residents. A public address system will also be installed as per requirements, Yadav maintained.Welcoming the move, Ranjan Tomar, president of Noida Village Residents Association said, while streetlights in villages have been installed by the Authority, many of them have been non-functional for long. Efforts should be made to ensure that streetlights remain functional. Also, different agencies were engaged to carry out the job of installing streetlights in different villages. The rural residents do not know whom to contact and get them fixed, Tomar added.
