‘Schools yet to comply with HC order on 15% fee rebate during Covid’

Noida: Over 100 private schools, affiliated with CBSE, are yet to comply with Allahabad high courts January 6 order on the 15% rebate on fees paid during the pandemic for the 2020-21 academic year. The district inspector of schools (DIOS), Dharamveer Singh, wrote to the CBSE regional head on Tuesday asking the education board to initiate action against these schools.Despite several notices and penalties, the schools have not followed the orders. Earlier in August, the district magistrate had imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh upon the schools. So far, only 70 schools in the district have refunded or adjusted the fees.Given the inaction on the schools part, the DIOS said, We have sent a letter to the Noida regional office of the CBSE and secretary of CBSE, requesting them to act against the schools. There is no time bound for the same," said Singh. Officials from the CBSE regional office located in the city have not responded on the matter. The affected schools currently face issues such as early morning fog, lack of light for studying, and unbearable heat in summer. Some schools are located far from the recently installed power lines. Students are unable to use ceiling fans and still rely on hand pumps for drinking water. The installation of solar panels is crucial to address these challenges.Schools in posh locality have no boundary wall, rooms, washroomsGovernment Primary School and Government High School in Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana, are in a dire state. The schools lack boundary walls, sufficient classrooms, infrastructure, and sanitation facilities. The Government Primary School, with only 9 classrooms, accommodates 800 students taught by 20 teachers. The school has converted a storeroom into a classroom. Additionally, there are only one washroom each for male and female students, causing long queues and unpleasant odors. The school authorities have raised these issues with the district education department and demanded construction of classrooms, washrooms, and boundary walls, but no concrete outcome has been achieved due to encroachment and involvement of multiple departments.
