Speed limit on Yamuna e-way to be reduced to 75 kmph

NOIDA: Anticipating foggy conditions, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has decided to reduce the maximum speed limit on the expressway from 100kmph to 75kmph for two months starting from December 15.Jaypee Infratech, the concessionaire responsible for the maintenance of the speedway, has been directed to double the number of patrolling vehicles (11), light commercial vehicle cranes (9) and ambulances (6).Sixty-four more cameras will also come up along the 165-km stretch.In a letter on Wednesday, the Authority directed the joint managing director of Jaypee to install speed limit boards at toll plazas and along the main carriageway.Pamphlets related to measures for safe travel in fog should be distributed at the entry/exit, toll plazas, and roadside facilities of the Yamuna Expressway. Announcements should be made through the PA (public announcement) system at all toll plazas, the letter reads.It has also asked to concessionaire to put up better quality reflective tapes and fog lights at entry and exit points. (Currently,) most of the reflective tapes installed on Yamuna Expressway have very low reflection, due to which there remains darkness on the expressway. In view of the above, accidents may occur on the expressway, the letter adds.Jaypee has been asked to complete the work in three months. The plan aims to unclog the Noida expressway and is complemented by other mobility projects including a Delhi Metro route and the Chilla elevated road.MCD looks to boost its toll tax mop-up from 124 plazasThe Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is hiring a new agency to manage toll plazas at the citys borders, aiming to increase revenue from toll tax collection. MCD has formed a committee to assess factors such as the number of commercial vehicles entering Delhi and has set the reserve price at Rs 847 crore annually. The toll contractors current term will end in 2024, and MCD expects to generate at least Rs 17.5 crore per week after the new agency is allotted. The standing committees approval is required before finalizing the rates.
