AQI inches towards ‘very poor’; temp to dip today

NOIDA: The air quality in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad deteriorated on Thursday within the poor category. Noida, Greater Noida and Ghziabad recorded an AQI of 279, 288 and 284, respectively, against Wednesdays 220, 232 and 230, respectively. Data by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed that on Thursday, Noidas Sector 62 and Sector 116 stations recorded very poor AQI of 308 while the air quality was poor at Sector 125 station (278).Sector 1 recorded an AQI of 252.In Greater Noida, Knowledge Park V recorded an AQI of 330 in the very poor category and Knowledge Park III saw it at 269 in the poor category. Similarly, Ghaziabads Vasundhara and Loni recorded very poor at 311 and 305, respectively. Indirapuram recorded an AQI of 289 and Sanjay Nagar at 270 — both in poor category.The air quality details from System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (Safar) were not available on Thursday.Noida on Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of 25.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 10.9 degrees, while Ghaziabad recorded a maximum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 12.9 degrees. Meanwhile, Delhis air quality finally turned very poor on Thursday after hovering in the poor category early in the day. The AQI at 10am was 289, which deteriorated to 301, very poor, by 11am and further to 315 by 3pm. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was 9.2 degrees Celsius, the same as Wednesdays, which is also the lowest of the season. The weather department expects the temperature to start falling from Friday. The maximum temperature was 25.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above the seasons normal, against 26.4 degrees on Wednesday. The air quality index has seen a marginal dip, reading 314 compared to 353 the previous day. Delhi experienced a drizzle in some parts of the city, and the visibility remained around 600 meters during the early morning hours. As winter approaches, the nights will gradually see a dip in temperature. The air quality in Delhi is likely to remain very poor till December 6 and is expected to continue in the same category for the next six days.
