GREATER NOIDA: The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority is all set to invite an expression of interest (EOI) from global companies to provide the best mode of transport between Greater Noida and the proposed international airport in Jewar.According to Arun Vir Singh, CEO, YEIDA, the most economical, modern and zero-carbon emission transport system will be chose. The move has come after a go-ahead given by Niti Aayog in July this year to the Union ministry of road transport and highways permitting the use of six new transport technologies. The proposal, aimed at improving the public transport system in the country, carries forward some ideas from Niti Aayog that recommended only electric vehicles for public transport, phasing out diesel vehicles and adopting new transport technologies like hyperloop, pod taxis, Metrinos, and more."These new technologies are path-breaking and can alter the way we travel. We will be taking the proposal to our next board meeting later this month for approval, after which we will initiate the EOI to select a leading company for the job," said Singh. The new mode of transport will be parallel to the proposed 38-km Metro line to the airport from Greater Noida, which is likely to come at a cost of Rs 180 to Rs 250 crore per kilometre."We will explore pod taxis and metrinos which will cost only Rs 50-60 crore per kilometre. Pod taxi is a personal rapid transit system that consists of 'pods' that carry five to six passengers on an elevated guide rail," he said."The system can be either a suspended system similar to a cable car, a suspended monorail or a track-based system similar to a monorail. Metrino is another public transport system which uses revolutionary design. It is a viable solution to problems of traffic congestion, pollution and subsidies. Construction, operation and maintenance costs are cheaper than the current systems," adde Singh."These technologies, now being adopted across the world, are known for fast and cost-effective transportation, the aspects which we as policy makers are looking to utilise for last mile coverage and cheaper fares. Things like metrinos and pod taxis are almost one tenth of the cost of the metro, so there's a cost advantage as well," he said.
