Puducherry logs 1598 new Covid-19 cases, 20 fatalities

Puducherry received 1598 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Saturday, while 20 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 1598 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Saturday, while 20 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

The active cases tally has mounted to 17,228 while total cases stand at 82,545.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,119 after 20 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours. The age groups of the deceased ranged between 27 and 75 years. Six of the deceased had no co-morbidities while the remaining 14 patients had complaints such as diabetes or hypertension.

The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 1295 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (160), Yanam (103) and Mahe (40).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said the new cases were identified after testing 9,139 samples and the UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 17.48%.

The Director said that 64,198 patients have recovered from Covid-19 so far. The recovery rate here is 77.77%, while the death rate stood at 1.36%.
