Puducherry logs 1,445 new cases, 30 fatalities

Puducherry received 1,445 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Saturday, while 30 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 1,445 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Saturday, while 30 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

The active cases tally has mounted to 17,340 while total cases stand at 94,612.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,325 after 30 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours.

The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 1140 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (203), Yanam (75) and Mahe (27).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said the new cases were identified after testing 9,092 samples and the UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 15.89%.

The official said that 2,011 patients have also recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing the total recoveries to 75,947.
The Director said that. The recovery rate here is 80.27%, while the death rate stood at 1.40%.

So far, 2.42 lakh vaccine doses have been administered. The official said that till now 34,133 healthcare workers and 20,921 people working on the frontline have been vaccinated. He informed that from March 1 till now, 1,33,845 people above 45 years of age and suffering from serious diseases have been vaccinated.
