60-year-old daily wage worker succumbs to Covid-19

Puducherry, July 16 (PTI) The Union Territory of Puducherry witnessed the death of a 60-year-old daily wage worker due to Covid-19, pushing the total toll to 1,963 till date.Director of Health G Sriramulu said this was the first fatality after nearly five months. The patient was hospitalised a couple of days ago. He tested positive for Covid-19 and died of the infection. The Director said 211 fresh cases were identified in the Union Territory, pushing the overall tally up to 1,68,698 during the last 24 hours, after examination of 2,229 samples.Active cases were 1,138 -- 17 in hospitals and the rest 1,121 in home quarantine, the Director said.While 120 patients recovered during the last 24 hours, the overall recoveries were 1,65,597.The test positivity rate was 9.47 per cent today while the fatality and recovery rates were 1.16 per cent and 98.16 per cent respectively.The Health Department has administered 17,61,951 doses so far -- 9,74,754 first doses, 7,46,141 the second and 41,056 booster doses, Sriramulu said.
