PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: BJP’s nominated corporator Bapu Nair has given a memorandum to municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar, seeking an education policy so that corporation-run schools could compete with private institutions.He sought appointment of leading educationists, continuous teaching for teachers, special courses for skill development and guidance to students from Standard VIII to X for MPSC and UPSC exams in the civic-run schools in Pimpri Chinchwad.The civic body’s school board has been dissolved. The responsibility of running and managing the schools now rest with the education committee of the municipal corporation “We have all the infrastructure in place. The schools should be run in a professional manner. Parents should send students to the municipal schools,” Nair said.He said the teachers should conduct spoken English, computer, yoga and hygiene courses in municipal-run schools. Sports should be promoted, too. He said the stress should be on Marathi language.Nair said the schools should be well painted, and have drinking water and toilet facilities. The education department officials should conduct surprise checks in schools, audit the methods of training and interact directly with students to assess their knowledge level. The outstanding students should be given scholarships instead of prize money, he said.
