PUNE: Built at a cost of around Rs 50 crore, the new administrative building of the Pune Municipal Corporation — sprawling over 14,000sqm — would be inaugurated on Thursday.The dome of 72sqft radius is the key attraction of the building equipped with new age facilities. Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu will chair its inaugural programme.The building was constructed in about three years. The general body hall will accommodate the 224 elected members of the corporation. The capacity of the spectators’ gallery is 180. Seating arrangements have been made for 50 officers and 50 journalists, too.According to the Pune Municipal Corporation ( PMC ) officials, the new building would have single-window system, citizen felicitation centre, post office, bank ATMs and PMPML bus pass counter. It would have halls for general body and standing committee meetings. It would also house the offices of mayor, deputy mayor, party leaders and the municipal secretary.The corporation officials claimed that the new building would resolve the problem of parking vehicles. Ample space would be available for parking cars and bikes. Open space has been left in the building, along with adequate waiting lounge at every floor.“There was a need to construct the new building as the existing premises did not have enough space for the increasing demand. More features will help in providing better service to citizens,” said a senior PMC official.The new building has been linked with the existing building of PMC, built in 1960. The structure of the new facility is identical to the existing building.Citizens are expecting better facilities at the new administrative building of the civic body. “I hope we will get a comfortable place to sit while getting our work done. Also, the civic officials announced that there would be ample parking space in the new building,” said a resident of Kothrud.
