A 26-year-old man tried to kill his wife by pouring petrol on her over triple talaq. The incident took place on Tuesday morning, on the premises of the family court. Traffic cops posted near the family court spotted the incident and took the man to the police station. The 20-year-old victim has lodged a complaint in the Shivajinagar police station against her husband.According to the information shared by the victim’s family, their daughter and the accused man Sohel Khan Latif Khan Pathan, a resident of Hadapsar, got married on May 24, 2015. Sohel runs a car painting shop at Shivajinagar and the complainant is a first-year student. She passed her 12th with first class and has taken admission in college. The victim’s father is engaged in the business of polishing gold and silver ornaments. The marriage was arranged with the permission of both families.According to the complainant, everything was good for four to five months after marriage, but then the in-laws allegedly started harassing her over petty issues. She informed that her father had given 40 tola gold to the Pathan family at the time of marriage, but they were demanding more money and gold. The father of the complainant tried to speak with the family but they kept harassing her. The complainant also alleged that her husband was having unnatural sex with her, and beat her up when she refused.Later the Pathan family called the complainant and her family for a discussion. Only 10 minutes into the discussion, however, Pathan suddenly told the complainant that he had given talaq to her.The complainant then filed a petition for maintenance in the family court. On Tuesday, she came to the court with her brother to complete the formalities at the family court building. With her brother busy on the phone, Pathan approached her when she was alone and tried to speak with her.“He asked me to withdraw the cases which were filed against him, because he was scared he would be punished for the talaq. I refused to speak with him, but he then pulled my burqa and poured petrol on me. When I protested, he pushed me on to a pillar. The incident was spotted by two cops and some lawyers. They ran towards me and took him to the police chowky,” the complainant told Mirror.Speaking to Mirror, the complainant’s father said, “We are not agreeing to the talaq as this is totally illegal. After the complaint, I took my daughter home. Her husband’s family used to beat her and abused her over small issues.”“For the last two years, I have been fighting for justice but nobody is taking cognisance. Triple talaq is not allowed but still my daughter is suffering from the consequences,” the 50-year-old father added. However, the incident was denied by the Pathan family. His father Latif Khan Pathan told Mirror, “The girl poured petrol on my son and some people also tried to beat him on the court premises. Her father has been threatening us and forcing us for compromise on a huge amount. We have all the records and we will be giving it to the cops.”Assistant police inspector Pramod Khatke told Mirror, “We have recorded the statement of the girl. We have booked her husband under section 323,324 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. We will investigate the matter in detail and then initiate further action. We have also called for the CCTV footage of the area where the incident took place.”
