Fresh deadline to regularize buildings

Pune: The initiative to regularize illegal properties in PMC limits has received a poor response with only 75 property owners applying for it so far.The drive was started following the state government's directives. “The frequent extensions have given a wrong message.,” said Vivek Velankar of Sajag Nagrik Manch, a citizens group. The PMC is now contemplating giving more time to citizens to submit their proposals. The entity seeking regularization will need to bear the costs involved.“Owing to the poor response, we have planned to extend the deadline as per the GR of the state government,” sources from PMC said.Activists have blamed the PMC’s lethargic approach for the poor response. The six-month deadline will end on July 19.

The PMC is now contemplating giving more time to citizens to submit their proposals. “The scheme was launched on January 19. The six-month deadline will end on July 19. We have received only 75 applications so far, out of which only 16 properties could be regularized,” civic officials said.Many of the proposals have been rejected on technical grounds, while some are still being considered. Under the initiative, unauthorized constructions built before 2015 can be compounded by paying a penalty.The state government GR pertains to changes made in the layout internally and also to unauthorised constructions, which can be compounded by the consumption of TDR and FSI.The directives issued by the government stated that an unauthorized construction on land reserved for public purposes can be considered for regularization, provided the urban local body shifts the reservation to another plot or deletes it.
