For the love of Kathak at Dancing Flames Festival

Puneites witnessed a beautiful and vibrant melange of dance performances at the three day Dancing Flames Festival organised by renowned Kathak exponent Prerana Deshpande. "The intention of organising this festival was to promote the dance form among the young generation and to encourage solo dancers to maintain the original form of different styles in Kathak. Twelve dancers from Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and the US presented the traditional Kathak performance merged with live music. In spite of its complex structure, this taal was appreciated by the audience. This taal is Prerana's creation as an offering to Saturn.

Twelve dancers from Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and the US presented the traditional Kathak performance merged with live music. "The intention of organising this festival was to promote the dance form among the young generation and to encourage solo dancers to maintain the original form of different styles in Kathak. So we invited the best students of gurus Rajendra Gangani, Jaykishan Maharaj, Shama Bhate and Yogini Gandhi along with my senior disciples to perform," says Prerana.The highlight of the event was the special presentation was of Taal Shannyayan by Rucha Ghamande. This taal is Prerana's creation as an offering to Saturn. In spite of its complex structure, this taal was appreciated by the audience.
