Pune: The traffic police have urged the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) to ensure proper maintenance of buses and prevent breakdowns that often cause congestions across the city.Since January, over 1,900 breakdowns of PMPML buses have been reported with the traffic control room.On Friday, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sheshrao Suryawanshi wrote a letter to the PMPML, seeking better upkeep of the buses in its fleet.During last week’s rain, many buses had broken down in the middle of the roads and caused traffic snarls. The police took about an hour to restore traffic at these spots. They even had to push quite a few buses off the breakdown spots to the nearby junctions.Suryawanshi said buses often break down and stop in the middle of the roads during peak traffic hours. “Since January, there have been 1,942 such instances.
