Pune: German airline Lufthansa has suspended its Pune operations until the end of the summer schedule, a move which is expected to hit many passengers.The flight will remain suspended until October 27, which marks the end of the summer schedule of the airline. In a statement issued by the airline, a Lufthansa spokesperson said the suspension is due to operational and commercial reasons.“Lufthansa has decided to suspend its cooperation with one of its wet lease partners until the end of the summer schedule due to operational and commercial reasons. The last scheduled departure took place on June 29 in Pune, India. Lufthansa and the former wet lease partner are now examining various options to resume cooperation as soon as possible. Lufthansa regrets this decision and has rebooked the passengers that were already booked,” the spokesperson told TOI in the statement without sharing any more specific details.The Lufthansa flight from Pune to Frankfurt is operated by Privatair. From June 1 last year, Lufthansa had increased the frequency of the flight to six times a week from four. The flight from Pune departs at 1.55am while the flight from Frankfurt arrives at 12:55am.Since almost a month now, the flight has been facing very frequent cancellations thereby hassling many passengers. The Pune airport has still got three flights to the UAE but the Lufthansa flight was the only one which provided passengers with direct access to Europe.
