Subdued showers to stay, rain likely from Tuesday

PUNE: Citizens will have to be content with a spell or two of rain this week.On Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast subdued rainfall activity in Pune and other parts of the state over the next couple of days.“The absence of rainfall systems that could have boosted the rains is causing the lull. One or two spells of rain are likely in Pune for most part of the week,” the IMD forecast stated.IMD officials said the situation might change after August 14, provided there is a formation of a cyclonic circulation of western disturbance The IMD forecast stated that the rainfall in Pune would be in all likelihood better than that of the rest of the days in the week.The irrigation department increased water discharge from the dams on Sunday following a marginal increase in rainfall. Water was discharged from the dams at the rate of over 6,000 cusec on Sunday evening.
