Now AICTE certificate programme mandatory for engineering teachers

“There is a need to regulate teaching in engineering colleges. Sahasrabudhe said that colleges would be eventually asked to ensure the existing faculty members too undergo the certification in batches. PUNE: From this year onwards, teachers seeking employment in engineering colleges will have to compulsorily complete an eight-module certification programme developed by the All India Council for Technical Education.Anil Sahasrabudhe, chairperson, AICTE, said the council has drafted the contents of the module which broadly looks into how teachers could participate in curriculum framework, adapt new technologies and tools, among others, to be able to qualify for teachers’ jobs in engineering colleges. The AICTE has said that PhD and M Phil holders, too, will have to go through the certification course.Sahasrabudhe spoke to TOI on the sidelines of a conference, which he attended in the city on Sunday. We have set up a committee to draft the module that the new-age teachers have to undergo before they are recruited,” he said.The draft of the module has been put up by the AICTE on its website for responses from stakeholders.The AICTE will conduct the course for new recruits through various colleges in the state.
