PUNE: Robbers travelling in a four-wheeler snatched a bag containing Rs 25,500 from a social worker near Wadia College in the early hours of Sunday. Chandrakant Sathe (55) from Malegaon in Washim district not only lost his valuables but also sustained severe injuries in his leg, caused by the sudden act of snatching, after he lost balance and fell on the road. His leg had to be cast in a plaster following the incident.Police said that this is the first time that a four-wheeler has been used for bag snatching. Since May, bike-borne men have been targeting people coming to the city in the early hours by buses and trains.“I cannot go home unless my plaster is removed,” said Sathe, who has been staying at the government guest house. Sathe said that he and his friend Ram Lokhande, from Aurangabad, came to Pune to attend a matchmaking ceremony of their community on Satara Road.They travelled in a private luxury bus and de-boarded near Ruby Hall Clinic around 3.45am on Sunday. “We decided to walk to the guesthouse as it was nearby,” he said.Sathe said that after walking some distance, a sedan slowed down near them. “A person rolled down the window and snatched the bag from my hand,” he said.Sathe tried to resist him but the driver accelerated the car and sped away. Sathe fell down due to the sudden jerk.“I tried to chase the car but it disappeared,” Lokhande said. He said that they tried to stop a vehicle transporting vegetables, but it did not stop. “We walked for some distance and found an auto. The driver took us to a nearby police chowky. But it was locked and the policemen were sleeping. “Meanwhile, we contacted the police control room on 100,” he said.Though the police reached the spot, they were not of much help. “My hand and legs were in severe pain. We somehow reached the guesthouse. Later in the day, we went to a clinic. The doctor put a plaster on my leg,” Sathe said, adding, “On Monday, I went to the police and lodged a complaint.”
