Pune cops arrest two in 10-year-old theft case

A team of Bharati Vidyapeeth police led by sub-inspector Shivdas Gaikwad made the arrests.Gaikwad told TOI that in the year 2008, an offence of theft had been registered against Satam and Sawant with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police. “We sent a team to Sangli, while another team picked-up Satam from Vadgaon Dhayari,” Gaikwad said.He said that the suspect Sawant was brought to the police station from Sangli. “The duo was untraceable since then,” Gaikwad said.Gaikwad said that police constables Pradip Gurav and Pranav Sakpal have received tip-off that the duo was in the respective homes. PUNE: The Bharati Vidyapeeth police on Wednesday arrested two thieves who were wanted for the last 10 years.The police identified them as Vaibhav Vasant Satam (35) of Raikarnagar in Vadgaon Dhayari and Ravindra Pandurang Sawant (36) of Islampur in Sangli district. “During the questioning, the duo has admitted their involvement in the theft,” Gaikwad said.Gaikwad said that the police are probing whether the duo had committed any thefts during the period of last 10 years.The investigating team comprised senior inspector of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police Vishnu Pawar, inspector Vishnu Tamhane, police constables Vinod Bhandalkar, Ganesh Sutar, Ujjwal Mokashi and Shivdatta Gaikwad.Pathanamthitta district collector PB Nooh imposes CrPC 144, prohibiting any unlawful assembly at Nilackal, Pamba, Sannidhanam and Elavumkal.
