Truncated metro routes 'not to serve purpose'

It is thus evident that the truncated metro routes as per the present metro plan under execution will not serve the purpose as expected.The Pune Metro detailed project report proposing the present Metro plan was submitted by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in March 2009. The question is whether such an old plan can remain valid today despite the fast development of the city in the last decade.

PUNE: The work on Pune Metro corridor one - Pimpri to Swargate, and corridor two - Vanaz - Ramwadi is in progress. It is surprising that already there are demands for extension of both the metro corridors and that too at both ends, convener of Pedestrian First, Prashant Inamdar has said. ``There is demand from Pimpri to Nigdi and extension from Swargate to Katraj. Likewise there is a demand for extension of the corridor from Vanaz to Bavdhan, and from Paud phata junction to Warje.Pune has developed and expanded in the past decade and the extensions demanded are very necessary for better connectivity considering movement of people from their homes to workplaces. It is thus evident that the truncated metro routes as per the present metro plan under execution will not serve the purpose as expected.The Pune Metro detailed project report proposing the present Metro plan was submitted by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in March 2009. It is obvious that the surveys and studies must have been conducted much earlier, which could be more than a decade ago. The final approval for the DPR of March 2009 was obtained eight years later in December 2016 without any changes in the route. Pune metro project is now under execution as per the decade old plan. The question is whether such an old plan can remain valid today despite the fast development of the city in the last decade.
