PUNE: Four masked men stole cash and gold ornaments from five apartments in a housing society on Dhanori Road in Vishrantwadi around 2.30am on Monday.The lone watchman guarding the society was asleep when the thieves got into the apartments after breaking the locks of the front doors. It was yet to be ascertained if anything was stolen from there.The four men had kept their car in the “visitors’ parking” area of Shantiban society. Their action was, however, captured by other CCTV cameras.Chairman of the housing society Anil Patil Dhawale (40) lodged a complaint with the police. “We will record their statements when they arrive,” assistant inspector (Vishrantwadi police) R K Darwade said.Dhawale said the thieves targeted the apartments on the first and second floors.

They also broke the locks of a bungalow in that area. It was yet to be ascertained if anything was stolen from there.The four men had kept their car in the “visitors’ parking” area of Shantiban society. Police later found that the car was stolen from Sangvi on November 6.The suspects cut the cables of the society’s CCTV cameras after breaking open the locks. Their action was, however, captured by other CCTV cameras.Chairman of the housing society Anil Patil Dhawale (40) lodged a complaint with the police. The thieves broke into the apartments of Dhawale, Anil Pandurang Salunkhe, Siraj Banbiru, Vinayak Shikhare and Shabbi Ahmed Mulla.The FIR stated that cash and valuables totally worth Rs4.9 lakh were stolen from Dhawale’s home.“Many residents were out of town to celebrate Diwali. My family and I were out too and returned on Monday morning. We found that someone had broken the front door and entered the house,” Dhawale told TOI.The four others are yet to return. “We will record their statements when they arrive,” assistant inspector (Vishrantwadi police) R K Darwade said.Dhawale said the thieves targeted the apartments on the first and second floors. The society has only one watchman, who sits in the allotted cabin. The suspects opened the society’s main entrance gates and drove inside.“I work here for 24 hours. I need to sleep. When the suspects entered the premises, I was sleeping,” the watchman said.“The CCTV cameras recorded the car’s number plate. On November 6, a resident of Sangvi and the car’s owner had lodged a complaint with the police stating that some unidentified suspects stole his vehicle,” the police said.
