The machine will allow small commercial vehicles as well as auto rickshaws to undergo fitness and brake test. “Sometimes we have to wait for two days or more to get the fitness test done due to the rush at Dive Ghat. The new machine will change this method, the RTO official said.Arun Rajbhar, an auto rickshaw driver, said that the machine will be a big relief for them. Small transport vehicles like goods carriers and auto rickshaws are also called at the Dive Ghat. However, since a few months, we are facing a severe manpower shortage and, hence, the number of daily appointments has been curtailed to 250.

Pune: Getting a fitness test done of small transport vehicles like goods carriers and autorickshaws will soon be a breeze with a brake roller machine set to be in operation in two months at Alandi regional transport office Large commercial vehicles will still have to go to Dive Ghat for fitness tests.Officials said that the machine, currently being installed at the Alandi Road office, will ease pressure on the test track at Dive Ghat, where both small and large commercial vehicles go for fitness tests.“We are expecting the machine to be in operation by February next year. The machine will allow small commercial vehicles as well as auto rickshaws to undergo fitness and brake test. It will help increase the number of daily appointments at the Dive Ghat test track as more heavy commercial vehicles can be tested at the facility,” deputy RTO Sanjay Raut told TOI.Earlier, Pune RTO B I Ajri had said that the machine will help increase the number of vehicles coming for brake testing.“Earlier, the RTO used to give daily appointments to 350 vehicles for fitness test, which included brake testing, at the Dive Ghat facility. However, since a few months, we are facing a severe manpower shortage and, hence, the number of daily appointments has been curtailed to 250. Small transport vehicles like goods carriers and auto rickshaws are also called at the Dive Ghat. After the new machine becomes operational their fitness and brake testing will be shifted to Alandi Road,” another official pointed out.For the brake test, the traditional method involves making the vehicle run at different speeds on a 250 metres track with instructors and inspectors telling the driver to apply brakes at specific points. The inspectors then check if the brakes are working or not. The new machine will change this method, the RTO official said.Arun Rajbhar, an auto rickshaw driver, said that the machine will be a big relief for them. “Sometimes we have to wait for two days or more to get the fitness test done due to the rush at Dive Ghat. This affected our business,” he said.
