PUNE: The road concreting works will continue in the days to come. The leaders in Pune Municipal Corporation PMC ) have decided to postpone the decision to stop these works in view of the water scarcity “A proposal regarding it was tabled before the standing committee. But we did not take any call on it. The demand to stop the works of road concreting was made considering the water shortage in the city. We will make the decision in the next meeting,” said Yogesh Mulik, chairman of the committee , while speaking to reporters.The civic officials said that the concreting works, where ‘work orders’ have already been issued, are taking place. “New works are not being proposed. But if the funds allotted to the previous works are not utilised, they will lapse. So stoppage of works is not a viable option. If policy decision about stopping them is taken, we can stop the works. The new policy can be implemented from next year’s budget,” said a senior official of PMC.The civic officials said that the funds have been allotted for overall traffic management of the city and improvement of road infrastructure. The standing committee has allocated Rs 225 crore in annual budget (2018-19) for new flyovers, grade separators, underpasses and parking slots. The allocations will be utilized for new projects and also for completion of ongoing projects.
