PUNE: Three persons were arrested on Sunday night for assaulting a lawyer on the night of December 20 in front of a mall, off Karve road.A team headed by senior inspector Bhaskar Jadhav of the Deccan Gymkhana police zeroed in on the trio — Sumit Manohar Kamble (27) of Ganjpeth, and Amol Deepak Marane (32) and Sunny Balkrishna More (23) of Rajendranagar, off Lal Bahadur Shashtri Road. Employed in different private companies, they hail from middle class families.The trio riding triple seat on a two-wheeler had last week assaulted the lawyer, Sandeepak Phadke (39), with a cement paver block after ramming his motorcycle from the rear.Senior inspector Jadhav said “There were no clues from the spot. A few men gave the description of the three men who had assaulted the lawyer. Based on it, the trio were arrested.”The three arrested persons were produced before a city court on Monday and were remanded in four-day police custody.The injured lawyer, Phadke, of Law College Road had lodged a complaint with the police late on December 20 night, stating that the trio had assaulted him with a paver block. They were booked for attempt to murder case.According to the police, Phadke was heading towards Karve Road from the Navi Peth area. The arrested trio were also heading in the same direction. After crossing the S M Joshi bridge, Phadke took a left turn.A scrap vendor was pushing his handcart in front of Phadke’s bike. A plastic drum fell from the cart and Phadke applied sudden brakes to his vehicle. The trio’s bike rammed Phadke’s motorcycle from the rear.When Phadke got down from his motorcycle, the suspects beat him up. One among them picked up the cement paver block from the footpath and hit Phadke on chest. He then hurled the block at Phadke, but it hit the motorcycle as Phadke ducked, the police said.
