Pune: Peon held for duping businessman

PUNE: A peon from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was arrested by the Kondhwa police on Tuesday night and his two accomplices were booked for allegedly duping a water tanker businessman to the tune of Rs 38 lakh on the pretext of offering him gold biscuits at a cheap rate. The incident happened at various places in Kondhwa and Undri between June 6 and August 6, 2018.The peon Chetan Sanjay Ghule (22) from Undri was produced before the Pune cantonment court for seeking custodial remand. The suspects delayed the issue of delivering the gold on some or the other pretext. We are on the lookout for his two accomplices.” Gule later returned Rs 2 lakhs to Kamthe but he and others failed to repay the entire amount.”Assistant inspector Chetan Kale from the Kondhwa police said, “We arrested Ghule but nothing was recovered from him and he was later released on bail.

He was remanded to magisterial custody and later released on bail.Businessman Akash Kamthe (26) registered an FIR against Ghule and others at Kondhwa police.Police said Kamthe running business of supplying water tankers to housing societies at Kondhwa area came in contact with Gule and others. The suspects lured him to purchase gold biscuits at a cheap rate for instance at the rate of Rs 20,000 instead of Rs 30,000 per tola.According to police, “Kamthe collected money from his family members and friends and paid Rs 38 lakh to the suspects on the run through Ghule for purchasing 100 tola gold biscuits but he did not receive the delivery. The suspects delayed the issue of delivering the gold on some or the other pretext. Gule later returned Rs 2 lakhs to Kamthe but he and others failed to repay the entire amount.”Assistant inspector Chetan Kale from the Kondhwa police said, “We arrested Ghule but nothing was recovered from him and he was later released on bail.
