Pune court orders release of dalit scholar Anand Teltumbde Hours after Anand Teltumbde was arrested by the police in the Elgar Parishad case for his alleged naxalite links, a Pune session court has ordered the release of the dalit scholar, reported news agency ANI. Teltumbde, a professor at Goa Institute of Management, was arrested by the police at the Mumbai airport early hours Saturday after his arrival from Kerala. PUNE: Senior academic Anand Teltumbde , who is facing arrest in the Elgar Parishad case for his alleged links with the banned CPI (Maoist) organization, appeared before investigating officer (IO) ACP Shivaji Pawar here on Thursday for his questioning as directed by the Bombay high court.“I am cooperating with the police and I do not want to speak about their interrogation as the matter is sub judice,” Teltumbde told TOI during the lunch break. The police were to continue with his questioning after 3pm.Teltumbde’s pre-arrest bail plea is being heard by the high court, which had directed him on February 11 to report to the IO on February 14 and 18 and cooperate with the investigation till his plea is finally decided. The plea is slated for next hearing on February 22.It is the police's case that Teltumbde and the accused held so far in the case are active members of the CPI (Maoist) organisation, which was behind the organisation of the Elgar Parishad in Pune on December 31, 2017 as part of a larger conspiracy to create social unrest, domestic chaos and overthrow government.Alleged inflammatory speeches and provocative statements made at the Parishad contributed to the January 1, 2018 caste clashes at Koregaon Bhima, about 30km from Pune on Ahmednagar highway, the police claimed.
