Pune: A 24-year-old woman allegedly killed her alcoholic husband at Pandharevasti in Punawale on Monday in an act of self-defence.The incident occurred after the man, in an inebriated state, got into a brawl with his wife and started beating her up.The Hinjewadi police identified the deceased as Gajanan Jamunaprasad Nishad (28) of Pandharevasti.The labour contractor Ranvijay Sah (29) of Gurukrupa Colony, Dighi Road in Bhosari lodged a complaint with the Hinjewadi police. “We arrested Nishad’s wife on Tuesday,” Shivaji Gaware, the inspector of the Hinjewadi police, said.Nishad hailed from Chhattisgarh. He had been working as a construction labourer in Punawale for the last few years. He stayed with his wife at Pandharevasti in a labour colony. His wife too worked at a construction site in Punawale“Prima facie the investigation revealed that Nishad, an alcoholic, would beat up his wife regularly,” Gaware said.On Monday evening, Nishad in an inebriated state, got into a brawl with his wife and began thrashing her again. “Nishad picked up a big stone to bludgeon his wife but she snatched it from him and smashed his head with it,” Gaware said.Hearing the commotion at their house, the other labourers gathered there. “They informed the police. Our team went to the Pandhare Vasti and took the woman into custody ,” Gaware said.The woman has been booked under Section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.“We are investigating the case,” an officer from the Hinjewadi police station said.
