PUNE: A two-wheeler mechanic (32) hacked his seven-month pregnant wife to death with a knife before ending his own life inside the couple's rented accommodation in Pirangut , about 20km from the city, on Wednesday.The Paud police have identified the couple as Sunil Vilas Shinde and Anita (28). "Prima facie probe has revealed that Shinde murdered his wife as he suspected her of infidelity," sub-inspector Rekha Dudhbhate of the Paud police told TOI.Dudhbhate said the couple got married in March last year and had rented the accommodation in Pirangut about eight months ago. "Their neighbours told us that Anita was about seven-month pregnant. Their married life was quite stormy as they could be heard quarrelling with each other every now and then," the officer said.The incident occurred around 12.30pm when one of the neighbour's of the couple heard Anita screaming for help. "She later saw blood-soaked Shinde and Anita in their balcony," Dudhbhate said.The woman immediately raised an alarm. When some neighbours reached Shinde's house to help the couple, they found that the main door was locked from inside. " The residents then alerted the police," the officer said. After reaching the flat, the police broke the door to gain entry inside the flat. "We found the couple lying unconscious in the balcony. Shinde had slit his wife's throat and also stabbed her in the stomach. Later, he ended his life by slitting his throat," Dudhbhate said.
