Pune Collective water stock in dams drops to 12 TMC

PUNE: The collective water stock in four dams that supply drinking water to the Pune city has dropped to 12.09 TMC. About 4 TMC water is expected to be release for crops and rural parts during summer, sources said.Four dams in Khadakwasla circle has collective capacity of 29.15 TMC. The irrigation department will take a call on further release of water for crops during summer in consultation with stakeholders. Also, the authorities should restrict use of drinking water for washing, construction and other purposes, officials said.Besides release of water for city, the irrigation department has initiated water release for crops. The dams have 4.55 TMC less stock than last year.The state irrigation department has said that a plan has been chalked out to ensure supply of water from dams to the city till mid July.

The dams have 4.55 TMC less stock than last year.The state irrigation department has said that a plan has been chalked out to ensure supply of water from dams to the city till mid July. The department has been in communication with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) pertaining to release of water from dams for the city.Officials in irrigation department said that the civic administration should use water judiciously to avoid further water cuts during peak summer. The city has been lifting over 1300 MLD water which should be brought down to 1150 MLD. Also, the authorities should restrict use of drinking water for washing, construction and other purposes, officials said.Besides release of water for city, the irrigation department has initiated water release for crops. Sources in the department said that ongoing release was expected to get over in next week. The irrigation department will take a call on further release of water for crops during summer in consultation with stakeholders. About 4 TMC water is expected to be release for crops and rural parts during summer, sources said.Four dams in Khadakwasla circle has collective capacity of 29.15 TMC. More than 50% water is released for city and remaining for rural parts.
