'Repenting decision of shifting to Pune'

He had taken up the major responsibility of financing his sister’s marriage in December last year and was also looking after the family’s expenses,” Motilal said.Manjeet’s neighbours described him as a “calm young man”.

PUNE: Motilal Prasad (52), father of Manjeet who was brutally murdered in Pimpri, on Sunday said the purpose of shifting with his wife to Pune from Siwan in Bihar is lost as he was hoping for a good life for his children here.The 22-year-old Manjeet, a call centre employee, died in a hospital early on Saturday morning, a little over 24 hours after he was stabbed by six young men at Deluxe Chowk in Pimpri in the wee hours of Friday."I am repenting my decision of coming to Pune, which I saw as a city of hope," said Motilal, who came with his wife here in 1984. The family lives in a rented one room-kitchen house at Ekta colony in Kalewadi, where they shifted two years ago."We will now fight for justice. My son was innocent, yet he was murdered. I do not want to see anyone facing a similar fate. For us, it is important that his assailants remain in jail forever," he said.Motilal, who sells vegetables door-todoor to contribute to the family’s income, said, “Besides his job, Manjeet was also doing his bachelor of computer science course. We were hoping for a better future for Manjeet. Unfortunately, that was not to be.”“My son was a family man in the true sense. On his holidays, he would spend time in nearby societies. He was friendly with senior citizens too.”
