Deccan police Roopali hotel cheating Madras Cafe Indian Penal Code on Tuesday registered an offence against Shashendra Shetty, manager of the reputedon FC Road, for allegedlythe owner by forging the documents of the restaurant lease and trying to take over the premises and restricting him from entering the hotel.Salil Shetty (34), has lodged a complaint against Shashendra. According to Salil’s complaint, his grandfather, Shridhar Shetty, had startedon FC Road. Madras Cafe was renamed Roopali in 1969.Shashendra had drawn up a fake leave and licence agreement which was not approved by Appi, the then owner of the restaurant, and submitted a photocopy of an older dated unregistered Rs 100 stamp paper.In May 2016, Appi grew suspicious of Shashendra’s intentions and felt he was trying to cheat her. The complainant’s grandfather had given Salil the power of attorney and a deed was also drawn up.However, Salil’s grandmother Appi passed away in August 2016 which created further complications in the case. “In 2018, I came to know that the leave and license agreement was forged by Shashendra and he had transferred various government permissions on his own name to run the restaurant. He had also transferred the ownership of restaurant,” said Salil in his complaint.Appi had appointed Shashendra as the manager in 2006 on a five-year contract. In 2011, the contract was renewed again and he was appointed as manager for the next five years.In his complaint, Salil says, “Sometime in June 2016, I met Shashendra and showed him a copy of the agreement. As soon as he realised that I was suspicious, he tried to throw me out of the restaurant. He further threatened to kill me. Shashendra then filed a false case against me at the Deccan police station. When police summoned me, the station-in-charge requested me to resolve the issue amicably. We had a small meeting with Shashendra wherein we told him to leave the hotel but he refused.”The Deccan police have booked Shashendra under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 447 (criminal trespass), 420, (cheating), 467, 468, 471, 474 (forgery), 341(wrongful restraint) and 506 (1) (criminal intimidation) of the
