Pune: The railway connectivity from Pune to several states in north and eastern India is set to improve with the cabinet panel on economic affairs on Tuesday approving the double line project between Daund and Manmad, spanning over 247.5km.The estimated cost of the project is Rs2081.27 crore and the completion cost is pegged at Rs2330.51 crore with 5% escalation per annum. The project is likely to be completed in the next five years."The Pune-Daund-Manmad stretch has single line at present. Often trains are delayed because of it. The doubling of line will solve this problem. It is a welcome step because the number of trains will increase and trains will not get delayed," Harsha Shah, the president of the Railway Pravasi Group, told TOI.The line-doubling of this section would not only speed up the operation of goods and passenger trains but will also increase the capacity for meeting the future increase in traffic."The double line will promote economic activity along the route," an official said.
