Despite numerous requests to authorities, there has been no action taken against these strays. The animals are also responsible for disturbing, and spreading, garbage deposited in bins. What are the authorities doing about the stray dog menace in the city? (Ashok Purandare)A. The civic administration has been carrying out sterilization and vaccination drives in accordance with the animal birth control guidelines. The administration has four vans to gather stray dogs for sterilization. The sterilization process is cur rently available at two centres in the city and one more facility is coming up at Baner.There has been a proposal to set up a facility at every zone in the city . The administration is working on two fronts. Action is being taken against hawkers who are obstructing footpaths and walkways. Officials are also identifying locations to relocate these hawkers and streetside vendors. The administration had recently conducted an antiencroachment drive at this junction. Vendors, who were sitting by the road, were met with legal action. Action against the tempos, meanwhile, will be carried out in co-operation with the regional transport office. We will be writing a letter to the transport officials, to organize a joint exercise.
