Protesters said that a flyover could have been developed instead of spending money on the skywalk. This could decongest the traffic problem and would have given respite to residents, they added. Residents also said that the skywalk structure would block the visibility of nearby buildings. While the project, conceived and implemented during the Raman Singh-led BJP government, is nearing completion, chief minister Bhupesh Baghel hinted that the Congress government would gather opinions from people regarding utility of the project.Congress had earlier opposed the skywalk project at Shastri Chowk, which is supposed to connect important roads at prime locations that pass through the busy lanes of the state capital. Since its conception, the project attracted severe criticism from several activists and residents who called it a sheer waste of public money because they preferred a flyover for regulating traffic instead.
