Naxals free CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas abducted after Bijapur encounter

Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, who was kidnapped by Naxals during the Bijapur ambush on April 3, has been released by the Maoists.

The CRPF personnel went missing after the April 3 gunfight between Naxals and security personnel near the Sukma-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh. Later, the Naxals had released the picture of missing the missing CRPF jawan, who is associated with the 210th CoBRA battalion.

Times Now`s Pradeep Dutta spoke to the family of the CRPF jawan. The wife of Manhas expressed immense happiness and expressed satisfaction with the government`s response. Speaking exclusively to the news channel, the mother of the CoBRA commando said she was very happy.  

Following a tip-off on wanted Maoist Madvi Hidma and his associates, a joint team of CRPF, District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) of the Chhattisgarh Police was dispatched to the Bijapur-Sukma border, however, on reaching the spot the security forces got trapped in the Naxals` ambush. Twenty-two personnel were killed in the deadly attack, while CoBRA commando Minhas went missing after the attack. Thirty-one jawans were also injured in the Naxal attack that took place between Jonaguda and Tekalguda villages along the border of Sukma and Bijapur districts in the Bastar region.
