Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat unveiled the statue of former BJP MP and Union minister late Dilip Singh Judeo in Jashpur district of Chattisgarh.

The 12-foot statue of Judeo has been made by famous sculptor Ram V Sutar, who also designed the Statue of Unity of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel situated in Kewadia, Gujarat.

Speaking at a function Bhagwat asked tribals to stay strong against those who try to dupe them by taking advantage of their innocence. The RSS chief said the pride of tribals was India’s pride and said people should stand together to understand and protect it for the country.

Bhagwat also said Judeo was brave and fearless and despite being famous and powerful, “he remained humble. He always stood for the pride of tribals”.

Who was Dilip Singh Judeo?

Judeo was born on March 8, 1949 into the erstwhile royal family of Jashpur. After Independence, the princely state became a part of the Raigarh district of undivided Madhya Pradesh. Son of the last ruling prince of Jashpur Raja Vijay Bhushan Singh Deo, Dilip Singh Judeo was elected to the Rajya Sabha thrice. He won the Lok Sabha election from Bilaspur in 2009.  Judeo was also a member of the RSS.

Dilip Singh Judeo, who served as minister of state in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government at the Centre, passed away on August 14, 2013. He has been also credited for initiating the `ghar wapsi` campaign in the tribal areas of Chhattisgarh.
